7even Day Challenge
National Anti-Poverty Week is an Australian campaign running for the week of 11-17 October in conjunction with the UN's Anti-Poverty Day on October 17. (See www.antipovertyweek.org.au)
This is an ideal opportunity for the Church to provide a solution to those suffering from debt related poverty, a problem which is running rampant in our society. Christians Against Poverty has launched a challenge which will help thousands of struggling families be released from the burden of debt and poverty, offering hope and a solution.
So what is the '7even Day Challenge' and how can you get involved?
The challenge is...to live for 7 days without using a credit card. This may be easy for some people, but for those who rely on a credit card to buy all their groceries, petrol and pay bills, it could be a real challenge.
Christians Against Poverty works with people overwhelmed by debt, which is often brought on by excessive use of credit cards. Fortunately CAP provides a free and comprehensive range of services which sees people becoming debt free within a 3-5 year period. This world class service was recently described by a leading Australian bank as 'head and shoulders above the rest'.
There are 2 ways that you and your congregation can get involved:
1. As a church
We are looking for a minimum of 70 churches to address the issues of debt and poverty within Australia and to show a 5 minute DVD highlighting the work of Christians Against Poverty. This can be done on either the 11th or 18th of October followed by taking an offering in support of our work to reach those captive to debt. Each church that joins the 7even Day Challenge will be given a partner pack with all promotional material including posters and DVDs, as well as any administrative material required.
2. As an individual
Take the 7even Day Challenge yourself. We are looking for hundreds of individuals to take the challenge to use cash instead of credit for seven days and to then make a donation in support of the work of CAP.
