Following suffering a stroke and receiving a fatal diagnosis of Mitochondrial Myopathy, Gloria was left wheel chair bound and feeling hopeless. Gloria's immobility left her unable to work and medical expenses quickly became overwhelming, forcing Gloria to turn to her credit cards. Gloria shared "I had a store card and credit cards that had now become unmanageable and I could no longer keep the payments up."
"I used to get credit calls every day of the week... I would sit here and just cry because you couldn't get them to stop and get them to understand."
Normally Christmas is a time of joy spent with family and friends, but for Gloria it was the time she will always remember as being told to 'prepare herself' by her doctors as there was nothing more they could do.
"I did my will, all those sorts of things, took care of my funeral, everything else... It was a very sad Christmas."
Gloria shared with Ellyce from CAP how this was a very 'dark time' in her life, days would go by spent in bed, not wanting to face the day. It was at her darkest hour when Gloria was seeing a Counsellor for depression that she came across a brochure for CAP. Gloria explained "I got home and rang.... Glenda talked me through what they do, how it works and what I would have to do." An appointment was then booked for Gloria where a budget was created and she received instant relief as her credit cards were cut up and CAP started the process of negotiating with Gloria's creditors.
"CAP were able to get two of the credit cards completely wiped and when I got that information that was just WOW!"
At CAP we aren't just passionate about helping people practically with their finances but also offering them eternal hope through a relationship with Jesus! Gloria was invited by the CAP team to attend church; she accepted. Gloria shared that she felt like she was at home, like she was meant to be there.
"I got baptised and since then just amazing miracles have happened."
